WHAT TO BRING
We'd suggest bringing along the following items:
MOU WAHO - THE HIDDEN GEM OF THE LAKE
A boat ride away from Wanaka lies an island, a protected home for native birds and plants. Join us on a wanaka cruise leaving from the lakefront towards Mou Waho, the largest of the Wanaka islands. As we make our way up the lake enjoy the views of our mountain ranges, Mou Tapu and Roy’s Bay. Once on the island your guide will lead you to summit of the island, a rock overlooking the Arethusa Pool providing spectacular 360 views. Here you have the opportunity to swim in one of New Zealand’s more unique locations; lake at the top of the island. Here we will enjoy a hot/cold drink with commentary from your guide while taking in some of the world best scenery. The trip lasts around 3-4 hours including the 1 hour intermediate nature walk and provides access to one of Wanaka’s hidden gems only accessible by boat. Departure 10.00am
Located up one of Lake Wanaka’s arms hides Stevenson’s Island, about 13 kms from Wanaka. Our experienced guide will tell you some of the history of the lake and island including the introductions of the Buff Weka. The island stop includes a short walk to the summit, a great spot to see full arm and glimpses of Mou Waho. On your way back to Wanaka enjoy a hot or cold drink and take in the scenery. This island cruise departs at 2.30pm and last 2 hours including the island stop
Enjoy a 1-hour cruise heading to the base of Mou Tapu, one of Lake Wanaka larger islands. Mou Tapu has a high conservation value as havens for plants, birds, and insects that have disappeared from the adjacent mainland. Mou Tapu is the only island to still have the original native bush and is sacred to the Māori. On route enjoy stunning views including the Harris Range which provides some amazing photos. Our Mou Tapu trip is scheduled for 5.00pm departing from the Log Cabin.
All our scheduled Lake Wanaka cruise options are aboard Single Image our passenger vessel. Single Image is a 9 meter ‘Southern’ designed launch able to accommodate 15 passengers.
